[Hetalia] Eden's Glimpse (One-shot)

A Fan-made Fanfiction

[A/n: The full title is really "You murdered Eden and you regretted it. You killed Eden and you paid for it" but it's long. Really long.]

A pristine girl, easily confused. While everyone argued, she settled her eyes on Kumajirou. Quietly she conversed with Kumajirou, the easiest one to speak to.

Canada was startled when an unknown girl, looking dazed, came over and began speaking with Kumajirou. Even more surprised he was when Kumajirou responded happily to her, she smiled and they began talking like best friends. "Uh. Who're you?" Canada figured the girl wouldn't see him.

The girl looked up at him from Kumajirou and blinked. "Me?" Canada was a little surprised that someone actually noticed him, but nodded. She blanked out so long that Canada wondered if her soul had left her.

"... I... Don't know."

Shel blinked as the conference finally ended. The girl stood out a lot. She had eyes with opaline colours, which admittedly was pretty abnormal. But it was quite pretty like that. Her hair shimmered in the sunlight, like rays of moonlight. She also had a chain locket around her neck, but no one could open the locket so no one cared.

Even though she was already there, no one could determine how she even entered, where she came or whether she was even a country. So she was given quite a bit of freedom, till it was found out which country she was. And if she wasn't a country... But such a girl, being a normal person?

You killed Eden and you liked it.

Somehow she got along with everyone. Her personality seemed to be able to suit everyone. Or maybe it was just the way she was. Like France's bouquet. When he offered them to her, she accepted it despite all the background noise yelling at her not to. But she didn't take it in the usual way. Instead, she had a puzzled look as she said, "The flowers are pretty, but why pluck them when they're still alive?" Which was actually a valid point that France took into consideration when offering his love.

Even England's scones, which were fairly toxic. When she ate them she choked them out, but afterwards she closed her eyes and smiled, almost saying to herself, "But the warmth of the person who made them almost made them sweet." England got a bit pissed off at being called "warm", although he was kind of pleased that someone kind of enjoyed his food.

As she spent more time with the other countries, they got used to her presence. Even trigger-happy Switzerland would let her off and his little sister Liechtenstein often invited her in. And where Japan was rather reserved, they spent time observing the sakura blooms. She didn't mind doing anything much, and didn't complain too much about any task set for her.

But no one knew her name. Not even she knew. Even when they tried to interrogate her, she didn't know anything. Even with the newest technology of lie-detectors, she couldn't tell them anything. Eventually they just came to calling her without a name, though how they did that, they could never really understand. It just seemed like she was always there when they needed her, giving no need to call her.

You killed Eden and you missed it.

One day, England was talking with his magical friends by himself again. Not like anyone else could see them for some reason. He was talking about the new girl, who was rather strange and unique, perhaps they would know about her? The angels, upon listening to the description, was becoming more and more surprised.

Suddenly, England realized the girl was staring at him. Shit, he thought, now she probably thinks I'm crazy like the rest of the world does. He was in for a surprise. The girl began dripping tears as she stood immobile. Without warning, she ran towards England, a smile on her face as she extended her hands out.

What the hell? England backed away fast, but it turned out she wasn't headed for him. As he watched in astonishment, she hugged one of the angels, although rather gently as not to damage the wings.

"Huh? You know each oth--Wait you can see them?" England began to feel kind of left out.

"Deus paradisum, lectus eris?" The angel ignored him, speaking in some unknown language to the girl. [1]

"Fortasse," she answered simply. [2] England didn't know what the hell they were speaking, and didn't give a shit anyway. the only thing he pricked his ears at was the word "paradisum" which sounded like "paradise", but it could always be another word anyway.

You killed Eden and you loved it.

One day, almost all the countries were slacking together in a room. For once, there was no chaos, no France being gay since he was off sick, everyone was at peace. Suddenly, a figure came running in through the open door. It was her.

She came to an abrupt halt, her hair swishing furiously as she dug her feet into the ground. Everyone looked at her curiously. This time, she was not the girl they knew. Her head was lowered as she took in laboured breaths and her body shook as she choked out words.

"Why..." It was so quiet that the slightest breeze swept it away. "Why... Why did you all?" Everyone looked at each other, confused. But her next statement, risen to a sobbing cry, froze everyone.

"Why did you all kill all those innocent people!"

They couldn't feign ignorance. This girl whom they had always been truthful with, they couldn't lie to her. They could only fidget helplessly as she began sobbing for real, tears rolling and falling to the ground.

No one chased after her as she turned and ran away. It was only when they saw the incoming car in front of her running, prone body, that they panicked. They shouted helplessly as the delicate figure met the car and was thrown like a flimsy doll. At the time that her body smashed into the solid ground, the locket that everyone had forgotten about broke open.

Russia was the first one to walk over, followed by China, Prussia and England. Even though they had seen thousands of people die, they had never seen an innocent girl die. China was the one who picked up the open, broken locket toread the message within: "A gift to my friend Eden, who must be one of the most beautiful ones ever. Your friend, God. (No wait, to heck with God, you can call me Yuuka.)"

Prussia stood by awkwardly as England gently lifted her body. She was very light, even lighter than a feather. Was that because she was dead, or had she always been like that? He stayed there for quite a while, not knowing what to do. Her hair trickled over his hand like soft cascading water.

You killed Eden and you lost it.

Everyone was haunted by her death. They had never known that paradise could be just like that. they had never known that there could be a paradise on earth even if they hated it. They had never known that paradise was just as simple as accepting everything and looking on their bright sides.

But now they'd never be able to gain that without her. She'd taught them and guided them onto that road to paradise, but she'd died and they lost their way without her. And they knew that her death was their fault, and it was their fault that an innocent child died. Maybe they didn't mind children dying, but once it was seen with their eyes it was impossible not to be haunted.

Gradually, over time, they began to hear voices. Voices that chanted, repeated endlessly.

"You killed Eden and you hated it. You killed Eden and you feared it."

"Stop it, stop it!" England became a child again, terrified and scared. He looked up and saw the faces of his magical friends, they chanted the same chant. He ran away, hid in an alley. "I didn't kill her... I didn't kill her..." he grabbed his head and laughed insanely, his voice wavering. When he looked up, he saw the face of Eden when she stared blankly, dead. He screamed and made a dash for it.

A thread of clothesline caught his neck and sliced through his trachea.

Everyone was driven insane in the end. They all saw the face of the dead, all saw the face of Eden, all saw the faces of them. No one knew what they were, but they were always there to leer at them, with malice in their voices.

"You killed Eden and you had it. You killed Eden and you hurt it."

It was always along those lines. Eventually, everyone met the same fate. England was first; he was the only one that saw Eden's true face when she was dead. Only the innocents still lived, but there were so few innocents. Everyone died in different ways. Whether sleeping pills or a noose, it was always suicide in the end. Even England's death, which seemed like an accident, also a suicide.

But with the relief on their faces when their bodies were found? Death was probably a blessing from Yuuka to them.

You murdered Eden and you regretted it. You murdered Eden and you paid for it.

Fin.

It's kind of strange to me, but I like the concept of Eden being a country. And it's true, Eden being Paradise is just based on how people accept others and look on the bright side. Also to do with not knowing anything else so that they won't be like, "Why isn't there hamburgers to eat?" -CoughAmericacough-
[1] I forgot, but it's supposed to be Latin for "Will you come back" or something.
[2] Latin for "Maybe".
